at the Department of Economics, Lund University, Sweden

Aim and background

Arne Ryde (photo 1, photo 2) was an exceptionally promising student in the Ph.D program at the Department of Economics, Lund University. He was tragically killed in a car accident in 1968 at the age of twenty-three.

The Arne Ryde Foundation was established by his parents, pharmacist Sven Ryde (photo) and his wife Valborg (photo), in commemoration of Arne Ryde.

The aim of the Foundation, as given in the deed from 1971, is to foster and promote advanced economic research in cooperation with the Department of Economics at Lund University.

The Foundation acts by lending support to conferences, symposia, lecture series and publications which are initiated by faculty members of the department.

A comprehensive account, in Swedish, of the first thirty years of the activities of the Arne Ryde Foundation is given in the book "Arne Rydes Stiftelse 1971-2001" by Björn Thalberg (photo).
