Topics in Public Economics

Home Up

The course will consist of three topics: The Economics of the Organization of the Public Sector -- Incentive aspects of internal organization and privatization; The Organization of Health Care; and Public Pensions and Public Choice.

I will, together with Eric Rehn,  teach the topic "The Economics of the Organization of the Public Sector -- Incentive aspects of internal organization and privatization."

The course will consist of a number of lectures seminars. It will run during the first half of the semester and it will be taught in English.

Look here for a description of the topic.

Articles are available on the web or -- in cases where Lund University does not have web access -- at the library.

Due to time constraints, the material on non-profits was covered only in passing; the implication in terms of readings is that the Glaeser-Shleifer paper is to be treated as optional.

Some ideas for writing a paper on this topic can be found here.

Course requirements

The examination consists of two parts, a written exam and a short paper (written individually) combined with a presentation of the paper.
Each student should write their paper on one of the topics. Students will be allocated to topics based on (in order of precedence): student preferences; random assignment.  The paper is to be presented and discussed in a seminar.
Total points are max 100, max 75 on the written exam and max 25 on the paper. For Pass 50 points are required, for High pass 75.
