Information about the Master Essay in Economics
The completion of a master essay is part of the course requirements in order to be awarded a master degree in Economics.
The essay can be written by one student alone, or jointly with another student. For a one-year master degree (60 credits)
the requirement is an essay corresponding to 15 credits. For a two-years master degree the requirement is one additional
essay of 15 credits. The information provided on this (and related pages) applies to both the one-year and the two-year essay.
All students must have an essay supervisor. A supervisor is not automatically assigned to a particular student or essay.
Instead, it is the student herself/himself that should contact a potential supervisor when she/he has decided upon a
subject for the essay, or the student can contact a supervisor and discuss possible subjects with her/him.
A list of supervisors and their related research areas is provided on the right hand side of this page.
If you have a problem in finding an appropriate essay supervisor, you can address a
contact person below within your profile of interest. She/he can most likely help you in this matter (or, you can address the
master programme coordinator/programme director).
At the beginning of each term there is a general information seminar about the process of writing an essay, how to
find a supervisor, possible subjects et cetera. See also the very informative and valuable power point presentation below, and
the check list. Time and place for the information meeting will be announced approx two weeks in advance.
Specific information about supervisors, seminars, opposition, formalities and plagiarism et cetera is provided
on the right hand side of this page.
