The general bachelor degree
The current Swedish Higher Education Ordinance stipulates that a general bachelor degree implies a completion of exactly 180 ECTS credits (three years of full-time studies), of which at least 90 ECTS must refer to a major subject while the remaining 90 ECTS can be chosen from optional subjects.

Within the major subject, 15 ECTS must refer to independent essay work. In addition, different faculties and departments might have special requirements for a general bachelor degree that must be fulfilled.
